Mid-Month Imprints & SotG Reminder

State of the Game
You’ve likely already seen it, but we want to put out a reminder to have a look at the State of the Game update posted earlier this month if you haven’t already. There’s no deadline on submitting feedback, so please drop us a line if you have anything you’d like to tell or ask us about how things are going!

New Imprints
5 new imprints have been added to the game’s setting, including 2 new species and 2 new species designations. This information will be copied to the Locations and Bestiary pages shortly.

There have also been updates to 2 locations based on new imprints.

If you have any questions for the mods about the newly added imprints, you can leave a comment in the questions thread below.

New Designation: Spirits

As powerful as they are mysterious, spirits are entities that freely defy the physical laws of the world. The extent of these abilities varies between both species and individuals, but can often be described by a single element, concept or purpose. Spirits may feed off the influence of others, growing in strength as more people pay attention to them and believe in their abilities. This also applies in the reverse - if they are ignored or forgotten, they will lose strength and become weak.

People may also be classified as spirits. Spirit people may feed off the influence of any non-spirit in the form of prayers or offerings. Currently, spirit people do not have any unique abilities, but they may expend some of their power to grant a temporary blessing to any non-spirit. Blessed individuals will be "lucky" for a period of time and will find that the world bends to their wants more easily. Blessings from more powerful spirit people will last longer and have a stronger effect.

New Species: ????

These mysterious beings are spirits that inhabit tools, appliances, and other usable objects, most commonly found inside of the trash that washes up on the shores of Takoba Beach. They cannot speak, but they can understand simple Language spoken by people. While their primary goal is to be paid attention to and utilized for the purpose dictated by their chosen vessel, their poor senses of judgement draw them to objects that tend to be forgotten and seldom used by their owners. In retaliation, they will play pranks on those that have claimed them - it starts subtly, such as hiding other more-frequently used items in the hopes that they will be used instead, but will become increasingly malicious as they are ignored.

With proper attention and patience, it is possible to calm the spirits down enough to placate them. Show them enough care and you can even become friends with them - they’ll still pull pranks every so often, but much more playfully.

Tsukumogami: Parsee Mizuhashi (Touhou Project)

New Designation: Plants

Plants are non-sentient, organic species that appear and grow randomly within the world, often consumed by other species as a food source. Plants do not need to eat or sleep like other species and instead only need light and water to thrive.

People, in rare cases, may also be classified as plants. Plant people can survive solely on light and water like other plants.

New Species: ????

A wild plant with a spindly, vine-like stem covered in red flower buds that can be found growing almost anywhere. The flowers of this plant will not bloom on their own - they will only bloom once exposed to an open flame, producing their own inner light and warmth even after the flames are put out.

The leaves of this plant may be ingested or rubbed on a wound to numb pain and speed up the natural healing process. The flowers may also be consumed for their healing properties. However, instead of numbing pain the flowers will induce an intense feeling of heat to the applied area.

Elfroot: Cole (Dragon Age: Inquisition)
Living Lanterns: Legion (Mass Effect, Lifeaftr CRAU)

Updated Location: Hammerlocke Citadel Ruins

At the highest point of the ruins is a structure that appears to be a hybrid of an old stone castle and a modern skyscraper on an isolated cliff, partially collapsed and in great disrepair. A domed base built of reinforced dark stone branches out from the bottom, thinning out into two exceedingly tall towers made of lighter stone and steel reinforcements. Between these two towers is a crown-like spire, reaching high up as the building’s peak. This, like the rest of the castle and surrounding town, appears to be partially destroyed.

A distinctive pair of wing-shaped pillars spread out from the two towers, though one of them seems to have fallen off and landed down the side of the mountain a long time ago. The mechanism for the medieval-style drawbridge at the castle’s entrance is broken, but it has been left down to allow access to the castle entrance across the treacherous cliffs below.

The castle’s lobby is large and extravagant, though cold and devoid of life; the room is filled with snowdrifts blown in from the surrounding area that have settled into corners and against the high pillars lining the walkway. Broken statues on top of the pillars line the main walkway cutting through the middle of the room, which is adorned by a long, jagged red and blue- patterned carpet that has deep tears and frays at its edges. The walls and floors are made of a mix of cobblestone and tiled marble with gold trimming, starkly contrasting one another.

Further into the lobby, next to the archway that leads further into the castle is an information booth with a large blue "i" above it, stocked with completely blank white pamphlets and nothing else. At the opposite side of the room is a wooden telephone pole with a street lamp and an old payphone on it - there's a wire connected at the top, but it seems to just go straight into the stone wall with nothing on the other side.

Past the main lobby is an entrance to a sports dome, the main area of the castle. The arena contains a large amount of spectator seating, two jumbo TV screens, and more tattered banners. Notably, a pair of twin stairwells cut through opposite sides of the dome through the spectator seating to lead to a higher tier above one of the jumbo TV screens, which houses a large, opulent throne, decorated with fanned out branches of gold that have long since tarnished. The roof of the dome has partially collapsed, leaving a pile of rubble in the middle of the arena and allowing snow to pile up in the stands.

The higher towers of the castle are difficult to access, but currently contain nothing of note besides empty hallways. They’re more like structures built to look like towers rather than actual floors in a building. The top of the broken crown spire can be reached by flight, but it’s just an empty, open space with nothing to note.

Hammerlocke Stadium: Raihan (Pokémon)
Snowy ruins: Madeline/Badeline (Celeste)
The Citadel: Noctis Lucis Caelum (Final Fantasy XV)

Updated Location: Aoba Shibumenosaki Underground Academy

In the maze of underground tunnels beneath one of the unused regions of the void is an extra stop, leading to the front entrance of a prestigious academic campus. The plaque on the front of the outer walls lining the property reads “Aoba Shibumenosaki Underground Academy”, and opens into a courtyard with an eye-catching fountain at its center. Surrounding the courtyard are various faculty buildings, ripe for exploring.

A set of double doors at the far end of the larger faculty building leads to the gymnasium. The gym is equipped with multiple basketball nets, two volleyball nets, a second floor walkway that runs along all four walls, a storage area for sports equipment, and separate locker rooms for men and women. The storage area, similar to the classrooms, is arranged like a store and can be accessed through the double doors on one side of the gym. Assortments of balls, weights, rackets, bats, and other random sports items can be found in the many wheeled clearance bins, and larger items such as treadmills and cycling machines are lined up along the back wall. Aoba Shibumenosaki sports jerseys of various colors and sizes can also be found all over the room, hanging from the walls or on rolling clothing racks. The locker rooms look like typical high school locker rooms, each with their own shower area.

Shibuya Underground Mall: Ann Takamaki (Persona 5 Royal)
Yumenosaki Private Academy: Leo Tsukinaga (Ensemble Stars!)
Aoba Johsai High: Hajime Iwaizumi (Haikyuu!!)

Awwww, they're cute aren't they? Little troublemakers...

*ahem* Love the Spirit distinction. Is there anywhere I need to go to include this designation for Parsee a well, since I know characters can be 'types?'

Does the new classification of "plants" affect the flowers already in the setting?

If spirits (and spirit people) feed off of the influence of non-spirits, does that mean they don't need to eat food, or can eat food in place of influence? Or are those like, two completely separate needs meters?

AND ALSO, I'm assuming this is the case but I assume spirits can't feed off the influence of other spirits?

Are we no longer going to get those beautiful drawings for the new species? ;___; I just checked the Bestiary and it looks like we will, hooray! It's kinda my favorite thing.

Alright, second question - would Melinoë be able to summon spirits? Follow-up being, can she control them?
