October Event Information

October Event Information We will be holding another event this month for the upcoming mingle log, this time focusing on the long awaited introduction of sleep into the setting. This event will begin on October 15th and will last until the end of the month.

Because characters will be unconscious during the October event, we will also not be processing any applications from October 15th until November 1st. Apps for both new and current players will remain open, but new characters will not be accepted into the game until after the event's conclusion. Please keep this in mind if there's a character you'd like to bring into the game before the event!

Sleep, Dreams... and Nightmares
The world has finally decided that people need to sleep, and everyone has a lot of catching up to do. All characters in the game will suddenly and simultaneously drop in exhaustion, whether they normally require sleep or not. Resisting this is impossible, and characters will not awaken until the event has concluded. Pets and summons may also be included in this if you would like your character to bring them along. While unconscious, the minds of the sleeping characters will begin to mix into a shared dream, where they will be able to interact with one another as they would in the waking world.

The fact that this is a dream won't be immediately obvious to characters, though some may catch on quicker than others, particularly characters with ties to dreams and nightmares. The level of awareness that characters have throughout the event is at the discretion of the players.

However, this will not be a simple or peaceful dream - the influence of a new location will seep into this shared dream, and everyone will instead be pulled into a nightmarish dreamworld. Dreaming characters will be unable to leave this location, and they will be antagonized by nightmares drawn from their collective fears and memories for as long as they remain trapped. We will be giving everyone free reign on how you want to interpret these nightmares. They can be as concrete as a terrifying monster to as vague as a fear of heights, and can manifest as they are or as an imprint-like combination of two or more different ideas. We encourage you to workshop with other players to create interesting scenarios for all parties involved! We will also provide a number of nightmares based on the world's understanding of fear, courtesy of everyone who participated in False History part of September's event.

No matter what anyone tries to do, they will find themselves unable to escape their nightmares for the entire month. This doesn't mean they'll be completely helpless, however...

Lucid Dreaming
Because this event takes place in the collective subconscious of the player characters, individual influence is much stronger than usual. The world’s understood mechanics (or lack thereof) need not apply here. All character abilities (including technological devices) may be used to their full extent within the dreamscape, short of escaping from the dream itself. You may also choose to have your character's abilities remain nerfed for the event, or gradually come back as they become more lucid.

This logic doesn't just apply to character abilities, however. Just as they will be able to function, so too will previously unestablished concepts such as injury and death. If your character dies in the dream, something interesting might happen - if it does, you must contact us and we will advise you on how to proceed.

Participation in this event is not mandatory. However, if you choose to opt-out your character will still be unconscious for the duration of the event. They will awaken at the same time as the other characters, but will not remember what they dreamt about.

Parsee Plotting Discussion

Hoo boy, well well. This one will be interesting won't it?

So, one of Parsee's worst nightmares at present is actually that her powers come back online, so ... yeah she's not going to like this one bit.

Death:
Nope! I've kind of 'glutted' myself on death plotting for the moment, and I would prefer that there be no death (Of Parsee or others) or permanent injuries in these threads. I'll let someone else try out the interesting death mechanics this time. ^_^

Powers:
Parsee can sense the envy of others, can manipulate her envy and the envy of other people to potentially dangerous and foolish levels. This is, in fact, one of her nightmare scenarios. But it isn't required. It's very easy to have her interact with shared dreams without this.

So what I'd like to do is a "Fresh" Opt-In or Opt-Out.
--If you're interested in her Sensing, and manipulating your characters' feelings of jealousy? Let me know.
--If you just want Sensing and not manipulating? Lemme know!
--None of that? Lemme know.

I'm going to default that those who don't respond aren't interested, but if you definitely don't want mention of it, an Opt-In helps make sure I know the fresh request not to be involved in anything like that. replying just helps me have clear in my head for October what you're wanting for this, and don't worry. I definitely know other routes to take her nightmares that aren't envy related. (Hint: Loneliness is big factor for her)

If I can find a way to make it work, I'm fine with Parsee Sensing her jealousy that Damien has so many friends here, even though she's not a jealous deity. But this is Kerby's Dreamland, so I may just say 'fuck it' and have that emotion happen. And if I do, then I'm curious about manipulation too.

ON THAT NOTE - Our two still need to meet, most especially because Melinoë hangs out at the shrine and has been leaving offerings.

I like to think her sensation of Envy isn't quite so 'specific' as to put names and places to it just sensing it. However, the nice thing about dreamland is that we can likely use that to our advantage here.

This is definitely doable, and we absolutely need to have them meet finally.

Viridi is filled with jealousy at all times deep deep deep deep deep deep down that humans can't be bothered to revere and worship her by holding her creations sacred! They love Palutena because she keeps saving their sorry butts, but they can't be bothered with the Goddess of Nature who actually made the world they live on.

It's complicated.

She's also super jealous at all times of a specific angel's relationship with Palutena, but that seems less relevant.

Anyway please manipulate her envy as much as you wish although the main target of her envy isn't actually here (Palutena).

If we're being perfectly honest Merlin probably has some envy in him, but what's probably more interesting is the fact that, like any other genuine feeling he has, it probably tends to be somewhat... faint or muted, compared to a normal human. So if you want something to really reinforce the fact that he isn't quite human (if Parsee hasn't already figured that out, that is) that's certainly an option!

Alternatively, there's always the fun of just getting caught up in the middle of Merlin taking advantage of the fact that he can actually use his powers again.

Yeah. With how muted his personality is, she'd likely find him difficult to actually manipulate. I think we'll get some good traction on options in this avenue that are unexpected. I kind of want to see what we have for exploring when the event goes live in a couple days.

He does occasionally have genuine emotional outbursts, but those are pretty rare. Aside from that though, there's the whole fact that he can manipulate dreams and such, which you can bet he'll be taking full advantage of. Including just.... messing around with other people more or less at random, whoops?

Honestly, once Rinoa realizes what's going on, she might ask Parsee to show her how her powers work... At the very least, she would be able to sense the jealousy Rinoa has towards those who have loved ones here!

Man, Rinoa, you just like sticking your hand into the rattlesnake pit don't you? *laughs* We can definitely do something with this to some extent. Her curiosity would probably floor Parsee a little, mostly beause she'd try to warn her away I think.

But yes, I'd love to give something a try. Even if Parsee manages to warn her off, it would be an interesting exchange.

You know, I'm absolutely cool with Parsee sensing and manipulating envy from Legion ... except they're really not feeling much jealousy right now. They're too exhausted: their main response to seeing other synths having better lives, for instance, is just to be thankful that there are places in the multiverse where not everything is terrible.

Like, the potential is there? But it hasn't been realized.

In Legion's case, I might go the H/C route. If her powers can't work on him at all, she might end up clinging to him some because she's not able to screw his life up any worse than it already is. It could actually offer a slightly different angle for character growth.

As you said, he's not exactly a fountain of envy, is he?

As I'm a fan of H/C, and Legion is a fan of clinging, this sounds fine.

Definitely not a fountain of envy, no. Now if Parsee were sensing exhaustion, on the other hand...
