September Game Updates & Event Plotting

September Game Updates & Event Plotting
Organic Imprints
Hello everyone! First thing's first: as we mentioned in our previous post, we have a new Organic Imprints page! Here, players will be able to submit threads that they feel might potentially influence the setting in some way. It is meant as a casual submission page so please don't overthink whether a thread is good enough to submit or not!

It was our original intention to implement organic imprints by following the threads in the game and noting recurring subjects and trends. However, as Tabula Rasa has turned out to be a little faster than we had anticipated, monitoring threads quickly grew difficult. We will still be making note of interesting character actions or discussions on our own, but this new page will allow players to bring attention to threads we may have otherwise missed.

We have also made a few minor edits to our main Imprint page to reflect the addition of an Organic Imprints page. The main difference is that the title has been changed to Canon Imprints & Regains, while the other edits focus more on making things clearer.

Upcoming Event Plotting
While most monthly logs focus on setting changes and developments as the world grows, for the upcoming log we will have prompts focusing on memory, which will encourage character interaction in such a way that plotting in advance will be essential. This event will begin on September 15th, and the effects will last until the end of the month at most.

There are two ways in which we will be playing with memory.

Memories of a False History
Based on the idea that something must have happened to Hammerlocke for it to wind up in ruins, some characters may find themselves recalling the disaster as though they were there to witness it. However, while they can recall the event in vivid detail as though it was incredibly recent, they will soon find that others do not recall the same disaster.

In addition to specific versions of the event for players to choose from for their character, intended to be more ‘common’ versions, players are also able to invent their own. It is recommended that these disasters relate in some manner to their own past experiences. If you have a suggestion you'd like to make for a possible explanation for the disaster, you can leave a comment in this thread below.

As characters share their insights and return to the ruins to investigate, they may find their imaginations taking over...

Memory Mixing and Confusion
Some of the invasive memories are not related to locations, but to each other. It seems that whatever caused characters to acquire new memories has also caused some memories to get scrambled. Characters will find themselves suddenly recalling things from the perspective of another, revealing details they never knew about them or their worlds. These new memories will replace random but important ones, and characters will be completely aware they have forgotten something important.

The lost memory does not need to be a memory given to another character. The significance and extent of the memory loss can vary according to player preference.

Lost memories do not need to be given to another character, and the significance and extent of the memory loss can vary according to player preference. Characters may also gain multiple memories from other characters, lose all of their own memories, be seemingly unaffected by the memory loss, and so on.

To restore jumbled memories, characters must find the person the invasive memory belongs to and discuss the topic with them. This will return the memory to the original character. Alternatively, the effect will fade as the setting begins to stabilize again near the end of the month.

While the invasive memories will be removed and characters will no longer recall them as their own, they will retain the knowledge that they had the memory and what the memory entailed. As such, they may very well come away knowing secrets they should never have learned.

Participation Bonus
To encourage potentially unexpected CR, we are offering an influence bonus of +5 points for this month. To qualify for this bonus, you must sign up your character for a randomized memory exchange and participate in at least one AC-length thread related to an assigned pairing. The sign up will last until September 11th 11:59 PM (UTC), after which characters will be paired off using a random number generator.

To sign up your character for a random memory exchange, you may leave a comment in the sign up thread below.

While only a randomly paired thread will count towards the participation bonus, players are not limited to only this thread for exchanging memories! Memories may be exchanged between any number of characters, as many times as the players would like.

Questions?
If you have any questions about the new Organic Imprints page or the upcoming event, you may leave us a comment in the questions thread below and we'll get back to you as soon as we can!

Should memories being exchanged be canon events only, or are reasonable assumptions/headcanons also acceptable?

(For example, in Sam's case, some memories of baby Gary, such as being present at his birth or holding him for the first time.)

More a request than a question, but when you guys do mod posts, could you try to make sure that it gets posted as public and not locked for review/editing and then posted? Because I have the OOC comm tracked to notify me of any new posts, and this is the second time I didn't get a notif of a mod post. Usually that happens when the post went up as private and then was made public after.

VOLCANOOOO

[personal profile] halloflamer 2020-09-08 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
As Blue was probably witness to the volcanic eruption that destroyed Cinnabar Island between FRLG and HGSS, he is going to remember Hammerlocke being destroyed in a similar disaster!

..........by what volcano, you ask? Don't ask questions. (Maybe Mt. Silver ??)

A chemical weapon swiftly annihilated everything living in the town. It has since fell to ruin, which is why the damage does not look fresh.

Exarch did not experience the event personally, but he did live in the aftermath of such a weapon two centuries after.

The Darkest Day

[personal profile] rotomphone 2020-09-08 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
In essentially what would have been SWSH's "bad end", Hammerlocke (and by extension, everything around it) would be destroyed by a swirling black storm created by Eternamax Eternatus. This storm, made of Dynamax energy, caused wild Pokémon to Dynamax out of control and rampage, causing a disaster of apocalyptic proportions and razing the city to ruins.

Lunar Cry!

There might not be a moon right now, but hey! In Rinoa's world, the moon is the source of monsters, which come to the planet in the form of a Lunar Cry. The Lunar Cry can destroy entire civilizations from its force alone, and deposits large numbers of monsters on the planet which go on to cause destruction themselves!

Weather (Tornado/Blizzard or Hurricane/Blizzard combo)

[personal profile] symbolofstrength 2020-09-08 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
The balance of nature was disrupted by Lawrence III messing with Articuno/Zapdos/Moltres in the second Pokemon movie, disrupting weather patterns all around the world.

Hammerlocke was just one of many victims of this disrupted weather.

REAPERS

One of the most destructive forces in the Mass Effect setting are the Reapers/Old-Machines. As they're from ME3 Legion is more than aware of what they're capable of: they'll remember the Reapers touching down in Hammerlocke, blasting things with lasers and turning the citizens to husks.

Hornet is no stranger to ruin, and her first thought will naturally be that of a plague. Most likely one that causes grotesque transformations, mindless violence, the dead rising from their graves... or, in other words, a zombie apocalypse. With explosions.

In FF7 Remake, Cloud is shown a virtual simulation of a meteor destroying their ancient civilisation. Shortly after that, he has a hallucination about a meteor coming down on their own world, which is going to be the basis for his own false memory regarding Hammelocke.

Noct would not be at all surprised if the Astral Shiva had something to do with the destruction of Hammerlocke, considering the effect she's had on certain places back in Eos. Noct has absolutely seen firsthand the damage the Astral can do, considering she held up their travels for a time.

Natural disasters caused by El scarcity

[personal profile] psychokinesia 2020-09-11 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
In his world, nature is kept in balance by giant crystals called El that are attuned to the six elements and tended to by trained priestesses. If an El if damaged, misused or otherwise disturbed, it can result in catastrophic natural disasters. One such event was so severe it caused the original El to be split into fragments and scattered across the world, along with splitting the continent itself in two and nearly destroying all civilization in the process.

More importantly, as far as Add can tell so far there is no El present in this world at all, so obviously that means there's nothing to keep the environment in check and it's frankly a miracle anyone is even alive right now. The random windstorms are even more proof, see??
