Early February Imprints & Updates

Early February Imprints & Updates
Hello, and welcome to February! We have a few interesting things lined up this month, so let’s dive right in:

Species Naming Poll, Round 2
We’re starting to assemble the options for the second round of the Species Naming Poll, which will include the tiebreakers from last round and the new species from today’s update. If you have any last-minute suggestions for names that have not already been included for older species, let us know in this thread to ensure that they are included - this round will not have a freeform option for suggestions, aside from our two most recently-added species. The new poll will be posted on February 15th, along with the next round of imprints.

FAQ Updates
The FAQ page has been updated to reflect some of the bigger IC changes the game has developed and the OOC clarifications that resulted from the State of the Game. We recommend giving a quick run-over of the questions marked with NEW!! and UPDATED!! to see what’s changed - as always, feel free to ask us if you have any questions.

Upcoming Events
February's event will be centered around the submitted concept of overgrowth, a condition that causes flowers to bloom inside those who deny or suppress their true feelings. We will be revealing the full details of the event on February 10th, in tandem with the plotting meme.

March’s event, conversely, will be introducing the concept of fandom to the world. What could this possibly mean?! Only time will tell…

New Imprints
3 new canon imprints have been implemented from the queue. Our current imprint queue is now at 13 imprints.

Today's round of changes includes 1 new species, 3 updated locations, and 4 updated concepts. This information will be copied to the appropriate pages shortly.

If you have any questions for the mods about the newly added imprints, you can leave a comment in the questions thread down below.

New Species: ????
These flora-fauna hybrids are partially sentient tree fruit that draw their sustenance from underground ley lines. Their fruits come in a variety of shapes, colors and flavors, but differ most radically based on the environments they grow in. These environments, when combined with the mana from nearby ley line deposits, give the fruit minor elemental properties.

The trees they grow on have a natural life cycle of seven days - a fruit planted in the ground near at least one ley line will sprout into a sapling, then flower, and finally produce more fruit. If left unpicked, the fruit will fall to the ground and the cycle will begin anew. The number of fruits a tree will bear will depend on the density of mana flow around its roots. Strangely, the trees tend to naturally grow in straight, evenly-spaced groves.

Despite their wide variety, the one common trait that all of the fruits share is a pair of wide, oval-shaped eyes that blink curiously at passersby. Their expressions will change if someone approaches to pick them, ranging between mild surprise to utter panic. If you listen closely when you pick one off a branch, you may hear a quiet, high-pitched squeak that gently fades away into silence. The subspecies of fruits are as follows:

  • Purplish-blue fruits with a bulbous shape that grow in clusters. These fruits can be commonly found near populated areas and locations with electronics. They will deliver a weak static shock when picked off of their tree branches and have a dry, somewhat chalky texture. When ingested, they give a boost in energy that grants enhanced alertness for 2-3 hours, with the trade-off of intense fatigue once the effect has worn off. This effect is particularly potent after a lightning storm has passed through the area they were harvested from.

  • Reddish-orange fruits that grow from a long, twisting stem. These fruits can be commonly found in hot places close to fire or lava, sometimes even growing directly out of flaming soil. The fruit is incredibly spicy, and creates a tingling, burning feeling when it makes contact with bare skin. If you’re able to stand the taste, they will grant increased resistance to heat and high temperatures for 2-3 hours, as well as temporary immunity to burns.

  • Fruits with a pinkish-green hue, large leaves and a tender exterior that grow exclusively in subterranean locations. If dropped on the ground, the fruits will quickly burrow themselves up to their stems by rotating like a drill. Their flesh is chewy, somewhat grainy, and tooth-achingly sweet. Consuming these fruits will completely nullify the effects of any other consumed fruits or plants within five minutes, though this will also remove beneficial effects.

  • Bell-shaped, yellowish-brown fruits that have a tough and jagged outer layer, more akin to a shell than skin. These fruits tend to grow in rocky, mountainous locations, as well as on the sides of cliffs. It isn’t advisable to bite into them raw, unless you want broken teeth - the outer layer should first be crushed with a suitable tool to reveal their softer, pinker, far more edible flesh. They have a neutral taste when eaten by themselves, but their juice has a powerful calming effect, instantly curing any headache and relieving mental stress.

  • Ocean blue-colored fruits that can be found near locations with underwater ley lines, sometimes growing directly in the shallow waters. They have a subtly sweet taste and gelatin-like texture, encased in a thin, translucent membrane that “sweats” a sticky substance. Though they’re quite messy to eat raw, their restorative properties can help to speed the healing process of small wounds.

  • Round, light blue fruits with a pattern of white rings on their skin that can easily be found in cold and snowy locations. Biting one feels like crunching through a layer of fresh snow, paired with a crisp, sour taste that lingers in the mouth. Despite always being cold to the touch, they will increase body heat when ingested and can grant temporary resistance to cold for 2-3 hours.

  • Small, round, greenish-yellow fruits can be found on trees in wide and open areas. When picked, they will inflate themselves to three-times their original size by sucking in air like a balloon, though they will deflate back to their original size if poked with something sharp. They are light and crisp when bitten into; the smaller the fruit, the more satisfying their sweet-tart flavor is. Eating one of these fruits will instantly cure bad breath, but they don't seem to do anything else right now.

Berry trees: Raihan (Pokémon)
Slimes: Venti (Genshin Impact)

Updated Location: MARKETzone
Located in a large cave near the center of Mount Silver's tunnel system is the MARKETzone, easily identified by a large neon sign stating as such at the entrance to the cave. The rivers in this area of the caves have been diverted into evenly spaced canals that run along the edges of the chamber, with stone benches and plain concrete walkways connecting into multiple exits.

The market features a wide variety of storefronts, buildings and tents in various states of dinginess and disrepair. Large neon signs and strings of colored lights decorate the upper areas of the cave, along with brightly colored posters and advertisements for various stores and games. Korean BBQ and sushi can be found at some of the food stands, as well as a variety of bottled drinks and alcohol. Most of the stores and buildings have been filled wall to wall with modern arcade machines, though many of them appear to be too damaged or broken to be played. The ones that do work feature strange, genre-defying games that all seem to feature the same playable character: a cat-potato hybrid creature wearing a jet pack. Currently, the arcade machines will only function while there is a thunderstorm active in the Mount Silver area.

BATHzone is a clean, Japanese-style bathhouse with a connected laundromat. Much like the rest of MARKETzone, it is dimly lit on the inside with a large number of neon lights throughout the building. A neon-lit sign is displayed in the entry area explaining the rules for the bathhouse.

  1. Take off your shoes.
  2. No clothing in the bathing area.
  3. Shower before entering the bath.
  4. No running.
  5. No towels in the bath water.
  6. No fish in the bath water.
Strangely, if one of the colorful fish from the mountain streams is brought into the bathhouse and placed in water, it will begin to fall apart and dissolve as if made of paper. No trace of the fish is left behind.

If anyone breaks one of the listed rules, a loud voice will announce “GAME OVER” and they will suddenly find themselves standing in a different building within MARKETzone, wearing a deactivated VR headset. If anyone else is in the bathhouse with them when this occurs, they will see a 2D pixelated explosion when the rule breaker disappears.

BATHzone has a changing room with lockers, a shower room, and a room containing a large bath with various buckets and stools for guests to use. There are divided areas for male and female guests, including separate baths. Instead of a handle to control water flow and temperature, all of the showers feature a rhythm game arcade cabinet built into the wall just below the shower head. To use the showers the player must maintain their combo in the game, with higher scores leading to a more comfortable experience.

The bathing area does not feature any games in place of water control, though there is a large digital sign on one wall that displays everyone’s shower scores.

Wall Market: Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII: Remake)

zone3: Turing (2064: Read Only Memories)
Bathhouse in Yongen-Jaya: Goro Akechi (Persona 5 Royal)

Updated Location: Galleria del Funghi
One of the larger and more prominently displayed statues is at the center of a room near the front of the museum, named Michelangelo's David by the plaque below it. The statue is completely normal aside from three medium-sized mushrooms with bulbous, pink caps growing up from between the figure's legs. The mushroom stalks are quite thick and difficult to break off without putting in some effort, as if standing firm in the face of adversity.

Updated Location: Mementos, the Heart of the World
There are many more tunnels than the current routes require, and it's very easy to get lost if one attempts to traverse the tunnels by foot. Several areas of the tunnels have been messily cut and hacked apart, as if by a serrated blade, creating shortcuts between adjacent areas. Though it is possible for a person to pass through these openings, the walls will convulse and ooze blood if the wound is touched. Continuing to agitate the tunnels in this way will cause them to try to “squeeze out” the offending object and trigger an above-ground earthquake, halting all train activity until the tunnels can relax again.

Updated Concept: Climate & Weather
Earthquakes may occur whenever there is a disturbance in the subterranean tunnels of Mementos, which can vary in intensity according to the level and nature of the disturbance. While minor tremors may be triggered by someone merely touching the various gashes and openings in the walls of Mementos, with just enough intensity to be felt and perhaps knock over loose objects, continuing to aggravate the wounds will cause the tremors to intensify, and efforts to cause further damage will result in significant earthquakes that may cause damage to structures in the surrounding areas.

During intense earthquakes, moans, groans and even screaming can be heard if the listener is close enough to the ground. Power may become intermittent, and even during minor tremors the trains will stop running.

Updated Concept: Technology
Trains will run continuously during storm periods, automatically making stops at each currently established station. When the storm that is sourcing their power finishes, they will fall back into inactivity regardless of their location - passengers will need to pry the doors open and continue to their destination on foot. Trains will also halt whenever an earthquake occurs.

Due to the current frequency of earthquakes in addition to the dependence on thunderstorms, trains are frequently delayed and can sometimes take more than 24 hours to complete a full circuit.

Updated Concept: Fire
Once an object has been set on fire or placed within a fire, its outermost layer will begin to burn away into ashes - thin materials such as string or paper will be destroyed entirely by this process. If a living thing becomes burned and the fire is not put out soon enough, the skin of the affected area will crumble off into ashes in a similar manner and leave behind a painful wound.

Updated Concept: Ley Lines
Ley lines that are large enough to use for communication only exist in certain locations throughout the world, though new ley lines may occasionally spring open or dry up over time. Specific ley line locations can be found on the Locations page.

The current ley line locations include:

  • Mount Silver, on the ground at the summit.
  • MARKETzone, along one of the cave walls, partially hidden by a poster.
  • Hammerhead Book Stop, at the back of one of the shelves in Takka's Library.
  • Hammerlocke Citadel Ruins, inexplicably within the payphone located inside the castle lobby.
  • Mortis Lake, underwater at the center of the lake.
  • Shrine Bridge, two ley lines can be found near the altars of each of the shrines.
  • The Lemon Cello Church, in the garden at the center of the church.
  • The Wyndon Simulation Joint, several ley lines can be found scattered throughout the conflagration zone.
  • Messiah Station Square, in one of the flooded greenery areas outside of the station.
  • Mementos, in several random locations throughout the inner tunnels.
  • Aoba Shibumenosaki UA, next to the fountain in the courtyard.
