December Imprints & Announcements

December Imprints & Announcements

Before we roll into the fun stuff, a few more quick announcements! There will be no additional imprints at the end of the month for December. This is, of course, because of the holidays. The next imprint drop will be on January 15th. We will still be posting a fresh TDM on the 1st.

The Species Naming Poll is now officially open for voting! This poll will remain open until January 11th 11:59 PM (UTC). You may vote once for each character you currently play in the game. If you were late to make a suggestion, you may use the "Other" option to fill in whatever ideas you might have. The final names will be chosen alongside the January imprint drop.

We will also be posting our State of the Game update in January so as not to overlap with the holidays. In the meantime, you’re welcome to continue leaving us feedback on the initial post if you haven’t already.

December Gift Exchange Mingle
The December Mingle Log is up! It seems that the gifts weren't all that the world had planned for today, and everyone will find themselves with a mysterious letter...

There will also be a severe blizzard across all of the known world sometime after the party is set to begin. This storm will not last the rest of the month, thankfully, but it will persist for about 24 hours before settling back down into normal weather.

New Imprints
7 new imprints have been added to the game’s setting, including 1 new locations and 1 new species. This information will be copied to the Locations and Bestiary pages shortly.

There have also been updates to 3 locations and 2 concepts based on new imprints and character actions.

If you have any questions for the mods about the newly added imprints, you can leave a comment in the questions thread below.

New Species: ????

This humble-looking creature prefers to shamble around the underground, navigating through the subway tunnels by the light of the lanterns they carry, lit by a single, never-extinguishing wisp of flame. No more than 3 feet tall, their bodies are covered with a reddish-orange fur robe that extends into a hood that rests over their heads. These hoods have pointed ears that function as a part of their body, and are quite sensitive to sounds. They have tails that act as an extension of the fur robe, fluffily bisecting into a fishtail-like shape.

Though the slick, green skin that peeks under their fur robes gives them the appearance of being organic, their glowing red eyes and metal beaks are the first hint that all is not as it seems. Their innards are completely mechanical, made up of RAM, various wires, and circuit boards, but those who can get as far as that are lucky - despite their reclusiveness, the creatures have inherently violent natures and are very territorial. They have an affinity for shiny, dangerously pointed objects, and will make their own shivs from scavenged materials if one cannot be readily found. These makeshift weapons will be readily brandished in their opposable paws, and they will not hesitate to stab and slash at anything that crosses their path.

Their presence can be detected by the “eggs” that they lay and leave about, which look suspiciously like generic AAA batteries. Despite their questionably chemical-like aftertaste, they are an excellent source of nutrition and can be broken and cooked like normal eggs.

Tonberries: Ignis Scientia (Final Fantasy XV)
Red foxes: Kimihiro Watanuki (xxxHOLiC)
Robot chickens: Indigo (Starbound)

Updated Location: Mt. Silver

Stairs have been carved into the stone near the top, eventually leading to a single long staircase. At the end of the stairs is a small, flat area paved with concrete slabs, bordered by a tall wire fence. The area has ample seating and a few tables for anyone who wishes to rest after their long climb, though it is suggested to first clear the layer of snow from them before taking a seat. Several empty planter boxes are littered on the tables, devoid of any fledgling flora thanks to the frozen-solid soil. Several large rotary fan units also line the area, but are not functional.

Mount Silver: Red (Pokémon)
Shujin Academy rooftop: Haru Okumura (Persona 5 Royal)

Updated Location: The Sky

The sky above the known world is pitch black, contrasting starkly with the endless white of the void surrounding it. Distant specs of light and vibrantly colorful auroras illuminate the sky, leaving the world below in a perpetual twilight. Instead of clouds, random shapes and objects float in the air high above the land, appearing, changing, adjusting and disappearing in random patterns, not unlike some great celestial lava lamp. These floating objects are solid (most of the time), can be climbed upon by those able to reach them, and may emit a soft glow of their own to help brighten the skies.

Currently, the only part of the land close enough to touch these sky objects is the very peak of Mount Silver. If one climbs high enough above the sky-shapes they'll eventually reach the stars and auroras above - the stars vary in size, but are no bigger than a volleyball and hot to the touch, while the auroras are insubstantial but may ripple and move if a solid object passes through. Attempting to rise any higher than the layer of stars will eventually transition back into the whiteness of the void.

From the outside, if one travels far enough into the void they'll see that the sky forms a black dome around the known world.

The Weird Bit: Espio (Sonic the Comic)
Arctic night sky: Indigo (Starbound)

New Location: Kichijoji Aerial District

Positioned right next to the Chicago L Station is a cluster of four tall buildings that make up the entire Kichijoji shopping district. Despite their size, they've been built with sturdy materials and are highly resistant to both high winds and extreme weather. The ground floor of each building resembles an apartment building entrance. However, instead of apartments each floor is filled with various shops and food stands. An elevator is located at the center of each building to allow flightless access to the higher floors.

Strangely, the shop fronts are not located on the inside of the building as one might expect - the entrances on the inside are plain and consist of little more than a door label and some scattered advertisement posters in the hallways. Instead, each shop is set up facing the outside of the building. Shops on the second floor and above each have a small open platform for guests to stand on, as well as enclosed balconies with seating for food stands and restaurants. The buildings are placed close enough together for one to comfortably glide between the various floors.

Currently, most of the shops are empty with closed signs on the doors. Some of them have been claimed by the local winged wildlife and filled with messy, large nests made of leaves and sticks. If cleaned out, they may be used as large studio loft apartments.

Penguin Sniper is a darts and billiards bar on the district's second story. Electronic dart boards are located to the right of the bar area, and two billiards tables take up most of the middle of the room. The outside entrance is fully open, making it a bit precarious to play during poor weather.

Kichijoji: Kasumi Yoshizawa (Persona 5 Royal)
The Aviary: Lysandra K. Weiss (Original Character)

Updated Location: Merlaut Apartments

The first three floors of the building have 10 one-room apartments each, numbered 101-110, 201-210, and 301-310. All of the apartments are spotlessly clean and have identical layouts. They all come with a desk, a cheap laptop computer (loaded with a simple paint program, word processor, solitaire and minesweeper), a single bed, a small kitchen area, a fridge stocked with various food and drink items, a small bookshelf, and a window that's been held open with a blank book. Each room also comes with a healthy succulent plant on the windowsill and a couple small vases of Mortis Lake flora.

Unoccupied rooms will be marked with a plain card placed on the bed that reads "Approved by housekeeping."

Updated Concept: Climate

Snow is "cold" and typically falls at the summit of Mount Silver. On rare occasions it may fall above other locations, causing a sudden shift in temperature. The ground of the affected area will be blanketed with roughly one-inch of snow, and any water in the area will be covered in a one-inch layer of solid ice. When the snowfall ends, all snow and ice left in the area will melt within five minutes and leave no trace behind.

Unlike rain and thunder, snow does not appear to come from any specific source. It simply forms and falls from somewhere below the sky's star layer.

Updated Concept: Technology

Vehicles are any manually-controlled passenger machines that are designed for use on the ground or in the sky. Unlike trains, which are controlled automatically through electrical power, personal vehicles have fuel tanks that must be filled in order for the machine to move. A fuel tank can be filled with any kind of liquid.

Fuel tanks will eventually deplete as the vehicle is used, though this tends to happen all at once. It is advisable to bring extra fuel along if you're planning a long trip, or if your vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly losing power could lead to disastrous results.
